Revival Theatre Company (RTC) is seeking a sound designer for its next show La Cage aux Folles.
The sound designer is responsible for creating and managing all the sounds including music, sound effects, actors mics, orchestra mics. monitors, and the overall atmosphere of a production, working with the director, music director and other designers to enhance the storytelling and audience experience.
RTC ensures the highest experience in sound design for its artists and audience. An attentive, positive and supportive individual is key to designing for RTC.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborating with the creative team:
Work closely with the director, other designers, and the actors to ensure the sound design supports the production’s vision and enhances the storytelling. Someone who goes the extra mile to make sure the details of the sound are at its highest level.
Choosing and creating sound elements:
This may involve selecting pre-recorded music or sound effects, recording original sound effects, and manipulating sounds digitally.
Designing and setting up the sound system:
The sound designer is responsible for the technical aspects of sound, including choosing the right equipment, setting up the sound system, and ensuring it functions properly. RTC does have sound equipment. The Designer is not responsible for bringing that in.
Ensuring clarity and quality:
Ensure that the actors’ voices and any music or sound effects are clear and of high quality for the audience.
Creating immersive experiences:
Sound designers aim to create an immersive and engaging experience for the audience through the use of sound, helping them visualize the setting, time period, and mood of the musical.
Technical aspects:
They also deal with the technical aspects of sound, including microphone placement, sound levels, and mixing.
Other responsibilities:
- Making sure actor mic batteries are charged and mics are tested and ready to go.
- Reading and understanding the musical and knowing when to cue actors’ mics.
- Making sure the orchestra is set up and ready for their first rehearsal.
- Learning the CSPS Hall house system so the pre-show, during show, and post show needs are met.
- An individual who can handle working in a high pressure, fast-paced environment at times and meet the needs of the team effectively and efficiently.
