Revival Theatre Company (RTC) is seeking a Lead Carpenter for its next show La Cage aux Folles.
Lead Carpenter constructs the physical sets for our theatre productions, working under the direction of a scenic designer and the director. Additional over hire help construct scenery.
Role: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for bringing the scenic designer’s vision to life by building and assembling the physical elements of the stage setting, including walls, floors, platforms, furniture, and other items that create the environment for the musical.
Collaboration: They work closely with the scenic designer, director and other members of the production team to ensure that the sets are built according to the design specifications and meet the needs of the production. Strong communication skills are a must and someone who has a joy to work with others and build beautiful scenery.
Skills: The Lead Carpenter requires a range of skills, including carpentry, woodworking, and an understanding of stage mechanics and safety.
Scene Shop: The Lead Carpenter often works in a scene shop prepping all material for load in. 90% of the build happens in the scene shop. RTC uses rented spaces to build its sets.
Schedule and Budget: The Lead Carpenter knows how to follow a tight schedule, ensuring the building is done to specifications, stays on track and on budget.
Load in and load out: The Lead Carpenter is responsible for load in and working with a crew of carpenters to ensure the set gets into the theatre effectively and efficiently. They’re also responsible for striking the set and either throwing out items or taking them to RTC storage.
